Mataram – April 22, 2025 – Earth Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental protection and sustainability. Celebrated annually on April 22, it serves as a reminder of humanity’s responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations. Around the world, individuals, organizations, and governments engage in activities that promote conservation, including tree planting, waste reduction, and renewable energy adoption.

As part of this year’s Earth Day celebrations, the Rector of the State Hindu Institute (IAHN) Gde Pudja Mataram, along with academic leaders and faculty members, participated in a tree-planting event on campus. This initiative is part of the National Movement to Plant One Million Matoa Trees, launched by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The tree-planting activity was conducted simultaneously across all work units under the Ministry of Religious Affairs throughout Indonesia. IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram reaffirmed its full commitment to environmental conservation and strengthening ecological awareness within religious and social life.

Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Wirata, A.Ma., S.E., M.Si., M.Pd. emphasized that this initiative is not merely symbolic but represents a tangible contribution to environmental sustainability.

"This is more than just planting trees—it is a real step toward preserving nature and ensuring a healthy environment for future generations. Hopefully, this movement will spark a collective awareness, inspiring more people to care about the environment," he stated.

Tree planting was carried out in the IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram campus area, involving faculty members, staff, and non-permanent employees (PPNPN). The event was also designed as an educational platform to instill environmental values in younger generations. Through hands-on participation, students and faculty alike gained deeper insight into the importance of conservation and sustainability efforts.

By planting Matoa trees, the institution aims to contribute not only to reforestation efforts but also to biodiversity conservation. Matoa trees are known for their resilience and ability to adapt to different climates, making them an excellent choice for long-term ecological sustainability. Their presence will enhance greenery and promote a more balanced ecosystem within the campus environment.

In addition to promoting ecological awareness, this movement aligns with broader government initiatives encouraging sustainable development. With increasing concerns over deforestation and climate change, actions such as these play a crucial role in fostering environmental stewardship. By integrating such values into educational institutions, Indonesia is paving the way for future generations to be more conscious and proactive in protecting the planet.

With the spirit of Earth Day and this national green movement, IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram proudly joins the collective effort to create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable planet. The campus community hopes that this initiative will continue growing, fostering environmental awareness across Indonesia.

Through collaborative action and conscious ecological efforts, this movement serves as a reminder that caring for nature is an essential responsibility shared by all. With the combined strength of government institutions, academic communities, and the general public, Indonesia is taking significant strides in ensuring a better environment for present and future generations.
