IAHN GDE PUDJA MATARAM STRENGTHENS ECOTHEOLOGICAL COMMITMENT THROUGH “GREEN DHARMA” MOVEMENT.

Mataram, February 6, 2026 — Institut Agama Hindu Negeri (IAHN) Gde Pudja Mataram reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through the Green Dharma movement, marked by a tree-planting activity and the release of birds held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Pura Dalem Swasta Pranawa, Abian Tubuh, Cakranegara.

The activity was attended by all functional and structural officials within IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram, reflecting a collective institutional responsibility toward environmental preservation rooted in spiritual values.

The program began with a joint prayer, emphasizing harmony between humans, nature, and the Divine, before continuing with the release of dozens of birds as a symbol of freedom, compassion, and respect for all living beings. The event concluded with the planting of dozens of trees within the temple area, symbolizing hope for a greener and more sustainable future.

In his remarks, the Rector of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram conveyed a profound message that environmental care is not merely a technical or administrative agenda, but a moral and spiritual calling. He emphasized that the Green Dharma movement reflects the essence of ecotheology, where religious teachings guide ethical behavior toward nature as a sacred creation.

According to the Rector, protecting the environment is a concrete manifestation of Dharma in daily life. “Nature is not an object to be exploited, but a living partner that sustains human existence. When we care for nature, we are practicing our faith,” he implicitly conveyed during the activity.

He further highlighted that ecotheology is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goals related to environmental protection, sustainable ecosystems, and climate action.

Moreover, the Green Dharma initiative also supports the Asta Protas (Eight Priority Programs) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, especially in strengthening religious moderation, ecological awareness, and the integration of spirituality with social responsibility.

Through this activity, IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram demonstrates its role not only as an academic institution but also as a moral agent that actively contributes to building environmental consciousness within society. The Green Dharma movement is expected to inspire the academic community and the wider public to continuously cultivate harmonious relationships between humanity, nature, and the Divine, in line with the noble values of Indonesian religious life.
