The Undergraduate Program of Cultural and Religious Tourism at IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram once again demonstrated its commitment to community engagement through an International Collaborative Community Service program held in partnership with the Consulate General of India.

Carrying the theme “Strengthening Cross-Cultural Understanding Through Indian Cinema,” the event took place on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at Transmart Mataram. The program was chaired by Ni Putu Sasmika Dewi, S.S., M.Si., and formed part of the series of celebrations for the institution’s 25th Dies Natalis.

A total of 144 participants attended the event, comprising the academic community of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram and invited representatives from Hindu organizations across West Nusa Tenggara. The activity featured a screening of the Indian film Boomba Ride, reflecting the program’s aim to foster intercultural dialogue and appreciation through cinematic works that transcend linguistic and geographical boundaries.

In his opening remarks, Rector of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Wirata, A.Ma., S.E., M.Si., M.Pd. expressed his deep appreciation for the collaborative initiative, emphasizing the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Indonesia and India. He noted that both nations share profound civilizational connections, particularly in spiritual traditions, arts, and philosophical outlooks.

According to him, cultural diplomacy through education and film serves as a meaningful bridge that strengthens mutual respect and understanding between the two countries, especially among younger generations.

Representing the Consulate General of India in Bali was Mr. Naveen Meghwal, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre. In his address, Mr. Meghwal highlighted the many cultural similarities between India and Indonesia, describing cinema as a powerful medium for bringing people closer together.

He explained that films enable audiences to grasp cultural values more easily because they combine both audio and visual storytelling, allowing viewers to emotionally connect with traditions, social norms, and shared human experiences. He added that the film screening was intended as a concrete effort to strengthen bilateral relations and promote mutual cultural appreciation.

Following the screening, participants gathered outdoors to celebrate the festival of Holi, which was also part of the Dies Natalis festivities. Holi, widely known as the Festival of Colors in India, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the spirit of joy, forgiveness, and renewal. Before the celebration began, Mr. Naveen Meghwal provided a brief explanation of the meaning and traditions of Holi, enriching participants’ understanding of the cultural significance behind the vibrant festivities.

The outdoor celebration unfolded in a lively atmosphere filled with warmth, camaraderie, and cheerful exchanges as participants joyfully shared colored powders in the spirit of unity and friendship. The entire program proceeded smoothly and harmoniously, reflecting the success of the international collaboration in strengthening cross-cultural understanding while fostering a sense of global togetherness within the academic community.

Through this initiative, IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram reaffirmed its role not only as an educational institution but also as a cultural bridge-builder, promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual respect in an increasingly interconnected world.
